City property swap approved
A property swap deal between the city and Bayou State Investments was approved by the Eunice of Board of Aldermen in a regular meeting that lasted about 15 minutes on Feb. 10.
Aldermen approved an ordinance that states that the city and Bayou State Investments will swap property. The city’s property is two lots on Samuel Drive and Bayou State Investments’ property is next to the Northwest Community Center.
The city property is valued at $15,000 and the Bayou State Investments property is valued at $16,000, the ordinance states.
Alderman also approved two liquor license applications. They are The Superette, 1230 W. Laurel Ave., and Moore’s Cajun Cuisine, 1640 W. Laurel Ave.
Mayor Scott Fontenot said he and Marion “Nootsie” Sattler attended a state Department of Transportation and Development hearing where they made their case for resurfacing La. 91 — Maple Avenue — and the bridge at the Bobcat Drive and Maple Avenue.
Fontenot said they received assurances the work will be done, but nothing in writing has been presented to the city.
The city has sent six resolutions to DOTD in 10 years requesting the work, the latest in January.
Much of the meeting was taken up with Police Chief Randy Fontenot.
Among the police chief’s topics was there were four Mardi Gras related arrests. Fontenot said he remembers police making dozens arrests on Mardi Gras alone in the 1980s.
The Eunice Mardi Gras now is five-day event.
Fontenot also said cameras at intersections in Eunice are recording traffic.
The cameras at some intersections are live feeds to Baton Rouge and are used to monitor traffic and control lights during an emergency.
Intersections also have motion sensors to determine traffic flow, he said.
