Eunice woman arrested in connection to daughter’s death
A Eunice woman has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with the 2013 death of her 19-month daughter.
Kimberly LeJeune, 33, of the 100 block of Soileau Road, was arrested Tuesday after an arrest warrant was issued by a 27th Judicial District judge.
On Feb. 23, 2013, law enforcement officers found Victoria Renee LeJeune unresponsive at LeJeune’s home on U.S. 190 west of Eunice following a 911 call placed by LeJeune. At that time, Robert H. Miller III, LeJeune’s boyfriend, was also living at the residence. An autopsy revealed that the child had died from an acute traumatic brain injury due to blunt force injury.
Miller was arrested and charged with second degree murder in the child’s death on March 4, 2013. During his 2015 trial, LeJeune said Miller would sometimes poke the girl heavily in the back of the head with his fingers. Doctors at the trial also testified that the child’s body was covered in bruises.
On Aug. 30, 2015, state District Judge Alonzo Harris declared a mistrial in the second degree murder trial after the jury heard a taped statement that included allegations of possible past criminal activity by the defendant. The charges against Miller were amended following the mistrial, and Miller now also faces a manslaughter charge. No trial date has been set for Miller.
LeJeune appeared for line in court at Wednesday at which time a summons was issued for her to reappear in court April 21 on the charge of manslaughter.
Frank Trosclair, of the St. Landry Parish District Attorney’s Office, said he could not discuss evidence in the case because it is a pending criminal matter.
