Bobcats dominate 5-3A team
The Eunice Bobcats won eight of their last 10 regular season games to win the District 5-3A championship.
It was the first district title for the Bobcats (21-10, 8-2) since 1998.
EHS won the St. Landry Parish tournament championship for the first time since 2005.
It was also the first playoff contest for the Bobcats since 2001.
The Port Barre Red Devils (19-10, 6-4), Northwest Raiders (12-11, 6-4) and the Ville Platte Bulldogs (11-13, 5-5) earned playoff berths but all lost in the first round.
Pine Prairie (13-9, 4-6) and Church Point (12-14, 1-9) did not make the post season.
The 2016 All-District 5-3A team reflects the Bobcats’ success as nine EHS players earned spots on the list.
Eunice head coach Chad Andrepont was named Coach of the Year, while Kevin Williams was named 5-3A MVP.
Joining Williams on the First Team are August Pitre from Northwest, Port Barre’s KeShaun Fontenot and Christian Andrus along with Kellian Semien from Ville Platte.
Bobcat Georrein Dupre was selected to the All-Defensive Team along with Kylance Castille from Church Point, Northwest’s Braylon Bienvenue, Vontrevous Thomas from Pine Prairie, Port Barre’s Sydney Pickney and Martin Jason from Ville Platte.
Eunice High’s Travis Godfrey and Malik Poullard were named to the Second Team.
Sylus Carson from Pine Prairie, Church Point’s DeShawn Wheeler and Tyran Jones from Ville Platte were also selected to the second team.
Five Bobcats were named Honorable Mention, including Brandon Ndubueze, Jude Cormier, Dashawn Vigers, Terreyll Poullard and Halen Jack.
Port Barre’s Javon Shelvin and Easton Shelvin were also named Honorable Mention, along with Shanicole Holland and Brandon Thomas from Ville Platte; Pine Prairie’s Vontrevious Thomas and Douglas Fontenot as well as Northwest’s Hayston Fontenot and Cameron Jones.
