Topham’s artwork named Games of Acadiana poster
LAFAYETTE — Miles Perret Cancer Services has released the 2016 Games of Acadiana commemorative poster, featuring the theme Play Through the Seasons and created by local artist and Ascension Episcopal School high school student, Victoria Topham.
Games of Acadiana, MPCS’ signature fundraising event, has featured a commemorative poster artist since the inception of Games in 2001.
Born in Lafayette, Victoria has enjoyed art and creative crafts since she was young.
Along with nurturing instructors Tina Frederick, Kellie Smith, and Jenny Guidry at Ascension Episcopal School, Victoria has studied and worked with instructors at The Little Paintbrush, including Missy Cannon and Sasha Nick. Victoria utilizes art as a creative outlet and means of self-expression.
The original painting can be viewed at Games of Acadiana on August 20 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Convention Center lobby.
Poster prints will be available for purchase and participants will be able to sign a reprint in memory or in honor of a loved one diagnosed with cancer to be displayed at the MPCS office.
“I am honored to be chosen as the poster artist for Games of Acadiana this year. Games of Acadiana is a vital part of Lafayette and I am thankful that I have been given the chance to show Acadiana what Games of Acadiana means to me.
“I’ve attended Games since I was a child. As a student of Ascension Episcopal School, the very school Miles Perret attended, support for MPCS was central to our dedication to service.
The poster art contains four vines, representing “Play Through the Seasons,” Each vine is vibrant and filled with fun elements that represent the fun games available.
The vines originate from Miles, since without MPCS, Games of Acadiana would not exist. The sun shines behind Miles’ heads and hands, showing the hope and light MPCS brings to families fighting, surviving and living with cancer.” - Victoria Topham
Games of Acadiana is a family-centered event filled with more than 60 games and activities. Join MPCS on Saturday, August 20 at the Cajundome Convention Center, and help support local families fight, survive, and live with cancer.
