Murphy Oil co-founder
ALEXANDRIA – Services for Murphy Oil Corp. co-founder and civic leader Caroline Murphy Keller Winter will be Sept. 27. She died Sept. 21 at her Inglewood Plantation home at age 92.
She and her three siblings founded the oil company in 1950 in El Dorado, Ark. In Arkansas, she was a founding member of the Arkansas Community Foundation and board chairman of the Arkansas Symphony.
After returning to Inglewood , she was a founding member of The Shepherd Center social service agency and Hope House, a residential/training center for homeless women. She was on the board of Rapides Symphony and a founding member of the Mid South Foundation, addressing economic, educational and social needs in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Survivors include five children.

Former tax official
BATON ROUGE – Services are Sept. 25 for former state tax official Ferdinand “Ferdy” Ivey. He died Sept. 20 at age 89.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II’s Pacific theater who held three Bronze Stars. He was assistant secretary of the Office of Tax Administration in the La. Dept. of Revenue under Gov. Dave Treen.
Survivors include a son.
Physician
BROUSSARD – Services for long-time physician Dr. Richard Huges will be Sept. 27. He died Sept. 23 at age 87.
He entered Tulane University in pre-med at the age of 14. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War’s II’s Pacific theater, including the invasion of Iwo Jima. He was also a veteran of the Korean War. He practiced plastic surgery for 30 years before practicing emergency medicine.
Survivors include his wife Lyn and several children.
