Dupres added to Bengal Hall of Fame

They were the cornerstones of the foundation that began the LSU Eunice athletic program.
Anita Dupre and her husband Phillip, known as Mr. Fee, were inducted into the Bengal Hall of Fame Saturday.
“Without these two indivuals, Bengal athletics is not a reality and not what it is today,” LSU Eunice athletic director Jeff Willis said. “It was because of their rentless support and complete unselfishness that we induct Mr. Fee and Anita into the Bengal Hall of Fame for the Class of 2016.”
In the 1990s, Anita was on the committee that helped establish Bengal athletics and was a long-time LSUE employee.
In the fall of 1999, the first women’s basketball and men’s baseball teams were established.
Mr. Fee was also part of the Bengal baseball program from its inception, serving as a volunteer coach with the first baseball coach David Russo.
Back in the early days of the baseball program, the Dupres would maintain the field during the summer to get it ready for the season.
The couple has continued to support Bengal athletics since their retirement and can be seen at nearly every game played on campus.
The Dupres have made the trips to the NJCAA College World Series to cheer on the Bengals.
Anita began her LSUE career in 1974 and worked in financial aid and scholarships for students and also served as the secretary for campus police department.
She also served on the staff senate and spent several terms as president, vice-president and secretary.
While still working in the financial aid office, Anita worked in the concession stand and continues to volunteer whereever there is a need.
Anita retired from LSUE’s financial aid office in 2007, but then became the first admistrative assistant for athletics until 2014.
“Our job here has never been a job here,” Anita told the crowd. “We enjoy so much working with young people and seeing all their qualities and abilities.
“Every year when some leave I hate to see them go,” Anita said. “Each player leaves a hole in our hearts where they once were.”
Mr. Fee said he is thrilled to be involved in Bengal athletics.
“Like Lou Gherig said - I am the luckiest man in the world because of what I get to do with these guys.
“It has been a great 17 years to be around the coaches, athletes and parents.
“It has been a good time,” Dupre said. “The trips to the World Series have been unbeliveable.”
