Skains, Bishop named All-Americans

LSU Eunice freshmen Rebecca Skains and Darby Bishop were named to the NJCAA Division II All-American softball team.
Skains, from West Ouachita was also the MVP and Most Outstanding Offensive Player in the World Series as the Lady Bengals captured the 2016 title.
Skains hit. 477 on the season with a school record 25 home runs.
She also had 83 RBI, 22 doubles, three triples, 103 hits and 82 runs scored.
Skains had 23 stolen bases with 19 walks and only 10 strikeouts in 216 at bats.
The Lady Bengal first baseman had a .993 fielding percentage with just two errors on the season with 271 out-outs.
Bishop, from New County High in Hickory, Mississippi, was named the nation’s best designated player.
Bishop led LSUE with a .480 batting average and finished the season with 80 RBI, 12 home runs, two triples, 15 doubles, 64 runs scored and 95 hits.
Bishop had 12 walks and only four strikeouts in 198 plate appearances.
Jones County Junior College grabbed a 9-0 win in the championship round but LSUE then exploded for a 12-4 victory to capture the 2016 NJCAA DII Softball championship.
The Lady Bengals opened the series with a 16-0 victory over Mott Junior College and Bishop went 1-for-3 with a RBI and two runs score before injuring her wrist and missing the remainder of the tournament.
Skains hit four home runs and drove in eight runs with 12 RBI over the six games of the series.
The Lady Bengals exploded for 45 runs, but limited their opponents to just 18 runs including the nine-run loss to Jones.
LSUE also won the 2011, 2013 and 2014 championships under head coach Andy Lee.
