Bobcats cruise in spring game

The Eunice High Bobcats used a balanced offensive attack and a solid defensive effort to post a 30-8 victory over the Oakdale High Warriors as both teams ended spring football practice with a game played Thursday evening at the Bobcat Stadium.
Coach Paul Trosclair’s Bobcats put the first points on the scoreboard with 2:46 left in the first quarter.
Georrein Dupre took a pitch around left end for a 9-yard touchdown to cap a seven-play drive for a 6-0 lead.
Nick Powell ran for the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead. Dupre would lead the Bobcats with 45 yards on five rushes against the Warriors.
The Bobcat defense would get the ball back for the offense after an interception by Brandon Ndubueze gave the Cats the football at the Oakdale 16-yard line.
Two plays later, quarterback Alex Richard would run five yards for a touchdown to put the Cats up 14-0.
Eunice High’s third touchdown of the first half came at the 4:23 mark. The Cats drove 67 yards in eight plays to score on a Richard to Travis Godfrey pass covering 19 yards. A successful two-point conversion run gave the Cats a 22-0 lead at the half.
Both teams struggled to move the football in the third quarter, but Godfrey would intercept a Warrior pass deep in Bobcat territory to halt a potential scoring drive.
The Cats would drive 78 yards in 13 plays to put another touchdown on the board. Richard had six-yard passes to Terreyll Poullard and Powell and a 9-run run by Dupre to put the Cats at the Oakdale 37-yard line.
Richard connected with Godfrey on a 17-yard completion for a first-and-ten at the 20. After a three-yard loss, Ian George ran for five and Dupre for three. Richard ran for seven yards, then scored from the one-yard line. Godfrey caught a pass from Richard for the two-point conversion and a 30-0 lead.
The Warriors would respond with a 70-yard, 11-play scoring drive to cut the lead to 30-8 with 2:33 left in the contest.
Coach Trosclair was pleased with his team’s play. “Our offense had good balance between run and pass, and our quarterback made some good decisions in running the offense. Our defense did a good job of creating turnovers and making big plays to slow down their offense.”
In addition to interceptions by Ndubueze and Godfrey, Tyler Allison and Larry Rideaux had quarterback sacks. Allison also caused a fumble.
