Bobcats dominate All-District honors
Eunice High went undefeated as the Bobcats won the 2016 District 5-3A title
The Bobcats (26-7, 10-0) placed eight players on the first team and two more were second-team selections.
District MVP honors went to senior Caleb Taylor and Scott Phillips was named District 5-3A Coach of the Year.
Bobcat senior pitcher Christian LeJeune was also selected to the first team, along catcher Josh Younglood, third baseman Tyler Darbonne, shortstop Cade Richard, outfielder Wesley Hebert and utility players Christian Taylor and Logan Manuel.
Port Barre (9-15, 7-3)pitcher Austin Lanclos, outfielder Judith Sylvester and utility player Christian Speyrer named to the first team.
Church Point (10-14, 6-4) first baseman Zach Ray and pitcher Collin Latiolais also earned first team honors.
Pine Prairie (14-12, 5-5) outfielder Josh Fontenot, and second baseman Dylan Doucet also earned first team honors along with utlility players Jordan Ardoin and Zach Lee.
Eunice outfielder Kameron Givens and utility plater Zac Guillory were named to the second team.
Second team pitchers included Port Barre’s Dale White, Troy Matt from Church Point along with Ville Platte’s Nick Vidrine and Zach Deville.
Church Point catcher Ronnie Meche and shortstop Wesley Higginbotham were named to the second team.
Pine Prairie first baseman Alex Fontenot along with ultility players Devin Leggett and Gaten Chaddrick also earned second team honors.
Second baseman Alex Fontenot from Northwest (2-17, 0-10) joined Port Barre thirdbaseman Bryce Higginbotham on the second team.
Second team outfielders also included Austin Benoit from Church Point and Pine Prairie’s Sylas Carson.
Pine Prairie’s Logan Blood and Tyler Brown from Ville Platte (4-12, 2-8) complete the second team selections.
Three district teams earned playoff berths.
No. 8 Eunice grabbed a 4-3 win over No. 25 Kaplan to begin the post-season to advance to the second round against No. 9 Lutcher.
In the best-of-three series, Lutcher rolled to a 13-7 win before the Bobcats rebounded with a 5-4 victory.
The Bulldogs ended the Bobcats’ season with a 10-5 win.
No. 23 Pine Prairie grabbed a 2-1 win over No. 10 De La Salle to open the playoffs before dropping a 4-3, 2-1 best-of three-series with No. 7 North Webster.
No. 31 Church Point lost to No. 2 E.D. White 7-1 in the first round.
