Every week seems like a rivalry game for the Bobcats as Eunice travels to Crowley Friday.
“We have to be ready and improve each weel,” Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair said. “We have a challenging and demanding schedule.”
EHS opened the season with a 34-6 win over Opelousas High before falling to Jennings (40-27).
Last week, the Bobcats (2-1) scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to rally past the St. Martinville Tigers for a 20-16 victory.
After a Dashawn Vigers 70 yard interception return, Trevin Ceasar’s scored on a short run to break a 6-6 tie.
Tigers later led 16-13. but Ceasar scored again and Austin Phillips booted the PAT to put the Cats ahead 20-16 with 2:44 left in the game.
That was pretty impressive and I enjoyed it,” Trosclair said of the win. “We are trying to move on because we have another tough one this week.”
Crowley (1-2) lost in heartbreakers to Iowa (29-28) and Westlake (17-14) before earning a 18-13 win over Cecilia.
“Crowley always has a good team,” Trosclair said.
“They lost some really good players from last year’s team but so did we.”
The Gents forced five Cecilia turnovers after turning the ball over nine times in the first two games.
Keith Wilson had 173 yards on 25 carries and scored twice in the win.
Freshman Marquis Garrett replaced the injured Paul Dugar at quarterback in the second half against the Bulldogs.
Jalean Jenkins and Jordan Mouton led the Gent defense with interceptions, while Desmond Harmon had two quarterback sacks.
Cecilia finished with 194 yards of total offense and nine first downs.
“They are a very productive offense,” Trosclair said. “We need to be really good on defense this week to keep them contained enough to give our offense a chance.”
Against St. Martinville, Jaden Brasseaux completed 6-of-12 passes for 40 yards including a 7-yard score to Jordan Ledet.
Eunice High running back Avery Lee gained 61 yards on 18 carries in the Bobcats’ win.
EHS linebacker Lukas Deculus had five tackles, four assists and a blocked punt.
“They outplayed us last year,” Trosclair said of the 34-10 loss to the Gents. “Hopefully we can play better this year.”
Trosclair said he hopes the non-district battles helps prepare the Bobcats for the District 5-3A run that begins on Oct. 7 against Ville Platte.
“Our goal is to win the district title,” he said. “So each week we are working toward that goal.”
