Eunice earns sweep over Port Barre
PORT BARRE – The Eunice High Lady Bobcats held off a late charge to defeat the Port Barre High Lady Red Devils by a 42-31 margin in basketball action Monday night at the Red Devil gym.
Coach Durrel Peloquin’s Lady Bobcats (7-1) built a 24-14 lead through three quarters, then outscored the Lady Red Devils 18-14 to seal the victory.
The Lady Bobcats are participating in the St. Landry Parish Tournament this week at North Central.
The Lady Cats took a 9-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Dashaya Vigers led the Eunice scoring in the opening quarter with six points on three field goals. Hali Jack added a field goal from beyond the 3-point arc.
The Lady Cats increased their advantage to 17-10 at the half, with Jack nailing two 3-point shots and Vigers adding another 2-point goal. Jack would add another three-pointer in the third quarter to go along with two-point goals by Vigers and Ashley Washington to build the Lady Cats’ 24-24 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Vigers hit three field goals, with Washington added two field goals and two free throws. Jack added her fifth 3-point goal of the game and Beulah Bradley chipped in with three free throws.
Vigers finished with 16 points to lead the Lady Cats, while Jack finished with 15 points. Washington, with eight, and Bradley, with three, rounded out the Lady Bobcat total.
EHS 54, PBHS 46
PORT BARRE – An outstanding second quarter sparked the Eunice High Bobcats to a 54-46 victory over the Port Barre High Red Devils in basketball action here Monday night.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats improved to 4-6 with the win. The Cats were scheduled to open play in the St. Landry Parish Tournament on Wednesday.
Against the Red Devils, the key quarter for the Bobcats was the second when they outscored Port Barre by a 14-3 margin to enjoy a 24-15 halftime advantage. Six different Bobcats scored in that quarter, with Paul Hebert hitting a 3-point goal, with Ray Rougeau adding a field goal and a free throw by to lead the scoring in the quarter.
The Cats managed to hold on to their lead in the third quarter, even though they were outscored 18-17 by the Red Devils. The Cats matched the Red Devils with 13 points in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Ron Shillow led the Eunice scoring in the fourth quarter with five points.
Shillow, who scored nine points in the third quarter, led the Bobcats in scoring with 18 points. He hit seven field goals and four-of-six free throws for the game. Hebert finished with 11 and Darius Richard had 10 for the Cats. Travis Godfrey and Khaleel Deville chipped in with four points apiece.
Leading the scoring for Port Barre was Markell Broussard with nine points. Tray Francis added eight and Jeremy Carron had seven for the Red Devils.
