The Eunice Lady Bobcats won the last three St. Landry Parish track championships.
With a strong start this year, the Lady Cats could be the favorites at Wednesday’s parish meet held at the Eunice High athletic complex.
The Lady Cats won the Eunice Invitational, as Amaya Johnwell won both the 100-meter dash (11.69) and 200-meter dash (26.97).

“We are excited about hosting the parish meet,” girls track coach Durell Peloquin said. “I think we have an excellent opportunity to do something special.
“We want to continue to improve on our times and distances heading toward the district track meet.”
OHS repeated as boys parish champs last season, while the Bobcats finished in third place.
Eunice opened the track season with a close second place finish, one point behind Crowley.
“OHS is the team to beat with their speed,” EHS boys coach Dale Guillory said. “Beau Chene seems to be a good team too.
“We have some good senior guys with Nick Powell and Bryce Pavich who will score points for us,” he said. “We should score points in the field with Lucus Deculus in the javelin, Robert Deculus in the shot put and Andrew Rougeau in the discus.”
Dashawn Vigers won the high jump (6-2), while Deculus won the javelin compeitition (163-6).
Pavich won the 300-meter hurdles (44.07).
Eunice finished third in the Bobcat Relays behind Crowley and Oakdale.
Powell finished second twice this season in the 100 neters (11.06, 11.07), while Lucas Deculus finished second in the javelin (167-3.)
Guillory said he thinks he relay squads could also help put the Bobcats in contention to lead the parish.
“If we come out of the field competition not too far behind, we have a chance to keep it close in the running events,” Guillory said. “We are a balanced team.”
