Lady Jays earn second 5-1A title in a row

The St. Edmund Lady Jays repeated as District 5-1A champions Tuesday at the Eunice High athletic complex.
It is the fourth district title for the girls under head coach Mike Yachera’s direction.
St. Edmund led with 145 points, followed by False River Academy (137), Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (136), Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (81) and North Central (32).
The top four finishers advance to the regionals to held be at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday.
St. Edmund’s Allison Lafleur won the 100 meters with a time of 13.75.
LaFleur finished second in the 200 meters at 28.51.
Heather Bieber won the shot put with a toss of 33-10.
Abby Brown won the pole vault at 7-6.
Victoria Heinen finished second in the high jump with a leap of 4-4.
Alison Turk finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 1:07.23.
Kasey Lafleur finished second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 57.28.
Lafleur finished fourth in the high jump (4-0).
Ganrielle Heinen finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 59.77.
Heidi Bieber grabbed second in the discus with a toss of 82-0 and third place in the javelin with a throw of 89-9.
Bieber finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 30-0 1/2.
Gabrielle Heinen finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 29-6 1/2.
Jami LeBouef finished fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 14.14.
LeBouef also finished fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 29.25.
Blaire Allain finished fourth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 6:41.24.
Allain also finished fourth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 14:34.17.
Mallory Allain finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 78-1 1/2.
Allain also finished fourth in the javelin with a toss of 34-7.
Lucy Brown finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with time of 22.06.
St. Edmund finished third in the 4x200 meter relay at 1:58.61.
The Lady Jays finished fourth in the 4x400 with a time of 4:54.77.
The Outstanding Track Performer was Kristen Olinde from Catholic Pointe Coupee (28 points).
Oustanding Field Perfomer was Sacred Heart’s Moira Parks (26 points).
In the boys competition, Catholic of Pointe Coupee grabbed the title with 163 points, followed by False River Academy (161) and 2014 district champions St. Edmund (140).
North Central (48) and Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (38) complete the standings.
Ross LaFleur won the javelin with a toss of 155.
Ross LaFleur also finished second in the discus with a throw of 98-1.
Alex Hunt won the 3,200 meters with a time of 12:10.17.
Hunt also finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 5:19.75.
Hunt finished third in the high jump with a leap of 5-2. He also finished third in the pole vault at 8-1.
Aaron Sittig won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.22.
Cullen Brown finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.96.
Brown also finished third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.25.
Brown was also third in the triple jump at 38-1, followed by John Hull’s 37-8 1/2.
Jacque Richard finished third in the shot put with a toss of 35-7.
Gibson LaFleur finished second in the long jump with a leap of 20-10.
Gibson LaFleur finished fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.96.
St. Edmund finished third in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 46.88.
The Jays finished second in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:37.29.
St. Edmund finished third in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:10.74.
Outstanding Field Performer was Catholic of Pointe Coupee’s Stephen Fulmer (20 points).
Outstanding Track Performer was False River Academy’s Zachary Curtis (22 points).
