Lady Jays roll, Jays fall in District 5-1A clash

BELLEVUE – The Lady Jays remained udefeated in District 5-1A play as St. Edmund earned a 65-47 win Friday over the Westminster Christian Academy Lady Crusaders.
St. Edmund (7-11, 3-0) will travel to North Central (16-2, 2-0) Tuesday for a key district clash.
After WCA (5-13, 0-3) jumped out to a 5-2 lead to open the game, the Lady Jays responded with a 10-0 run sparked by four points from Victoria McGee.
Abby Miller later added back-to-back buckets and a free throw to give the Lady Jays a 18-7 advantage as the game moved to the second period.
The first half of the second quarter was spent at the foul line as the two teams combined for 7-of-15 at the stripe.
The Lady Crusaders rallied with three-pointers from Kennedy Brown and Jalacia Charles to help WCA close the gap tp 24-13 midway through the period.
Maggie Larriviere scored on in the lane for the Lady Jays, while Miller adde a pair of inside buckets to push St. Ed’s ahead 30-18.
Allison LaFleur hit two free throws in the closing seconds for the Lady Jays, but Christian Terry drained a long-range trey at the buzzer to close the gap to 32-22 at the break.
The Lady Jays began the third period with a 8-4 run, aided by trey from McGee and a lay-up by Miller.
After another three-pointer from Terry as WCA closed the gap to 40-29, the Lady Jays answered with a put-back by Sydney Thibodeaux and another trey from McGee..
McGee later hit a free throw and Elissa David nailed a jumper to extend the Lady Jays’ lead to 48-35.
WCA’s Terry scored on a steal with three seconds left in the period to begin a Lady Crusader 5-0 run.
The Lady Jays answered when David hit three free throws and Miller and McGee both scored in the paint for a 55-38 St. Edmund lead.
The two teams exchanged late surges, but the Lady Jays never gave up much ground.
After four points from Terry, the Lady Jays went on a 6-0 run sparked by a three points by Miller and a free throw from Larriviere.
Burleigh nailed a trey and two free throws for WCA, but Lady Jays capped the night with a trey from McGee and a free throw by Abby Brown.
Miller led St Edmund with 24 points, while McGee chipped in 16 points and David finished with nine points.
Terry led WCA with 20 points and Burleigh finished with 14 points.
WCA 95, SEH 64
The Wesminster Crusdaders remained in the district title battle with a 95-64 win over the Blue Jays.
WCA (9-6, 2-1) began the night with a 18-5 run aided by two treys from Kailen Thibodeaux.
John Ross Guillory hit a trey to help St. Edmund (1-19, 1-2) close the gap 18-8, but the Crusaders responded with a 13-5 run to push ahead, 31-13 with 1:53 left in the period.
Guillory hit a jumper and Austin Gradmey scored off a steal to help the Jays close the gap to 33-17.
Corey Pellerin hit a trey and Orlando Richard aded a jumper to give WCA a 38-19 advantage at the end of the first period.
WCA began the second quarter with a 11-0 run as the Crusaders began to pull away, ahead 49-19.
Cullen Brown hit a free throw and Guillory added a drive in the lane for the Jays, but WCA answered with a 7-2 surge.
After Guillory scored from outside to close the gap to 56-26 with 1:36 left, the Crusaders ended the half with a 5-0 run sparked by a trey from Pellerin as WCA led 61-26 at the break.
Westminster continued its barrage early in the third period as the Crusaders went on a 12-3 run before Guillory answered with 10 points,
Brown hit a lay-up and Guillory scorched the nets for eight more points including a trey at the buzzer to close the gap to 84-49.
WCA began the fourth quarter with a 7-2 surge before Dylan Bieber scored on a jumper for the Jays.
The Crusaders advanced their lead to 93-57 with 4:21 left, but the Jays kept WCA from the century mark.
Brown scored in the lane and then nailed a trey, while Guilory hit a shot with 35 seconds left for the Jays to close the margin to 95-64.
Guillory led all scorers with 41 points, while Brown chipped in 12 points.
Pellerin led WCA with 25 points, while Firmin finished with 15 points and Thibodeaux had 14 points.
