Late free throws lift Lady Cats

The Eunice High Lady Bobcats pulled away from the Oakdale Lady Warriors late in the fourth quarter to post a 42-39 victory in non-district basketball action Monday at the Bobcat gym.
Coach Durrel Peloquin’s Lady Bobcats, now 6-1 on the season, took the lead for good with 3:26 mark of the fourth quarter on a driving shot by senior Kate McLemore. The goal gave the Lady Cats a 35-34 lead.
Seconds later, sophomore Dashaya Vigers was fouled and hit both ends of a one-and-one to extend the lead to 37-34. The Lady Warriors cut the lead to 37-35 on Romona Green’s free throw at the 2:24 mark, but the Lady Cats’ Mia Lejeune drew a charge and converted both free throws to up the Eunice lead to 39-35 with just over two minutes left in the game.
An Oakdale field goal cut the Lady Cats’ lead to 39-37, but McLemore added a free throw and Vigers added three free throws in the final minute to secure the victory. Oakdale got an insignificant field goal just prior to the buzzer.
The lead shifted back and forth in the early going, with the Lady Warriors holding an 8-6 first quarter advantage and a 20-18 at the half. The Lady Cats used an 11-8 advantage in the third quarter for a 29-28 lead at the start of the fourth quarter.
Vigers topped the Lady Bobcats’ scoring for the game with 23 points. Vigers had seven field goals and made nine of 16 free throws. She made eight of those free throws in ten attempts in the fourth quarter.
Ashley Washington added eight points for the Lady Cats, with Logan Ledoux chipping in with four and McLemore with three. Lejeune, and Hali Jack had two points apiece.
Teia Hampton led Oakdale with 13 points. Jennifer Poullard and Green added nine apiece for the Lady Warriors.
Next action for the Lady Cats will come Monday when they travel to face the Lady Red Devils of Port Barre High School.

EHS 49, Iowa 40
IOWA – The Lady Bobcats took a 49-40 victory over the host Iowa High Lady Yellow Jackets Saturday in their final game of the Iowa High Tournament.
The Lady Bobcats trailed after the first quarter by a 14-9 margin, but came back in the second quarter to lead 17-16 at the half. The Lady Cats held the Lady Jackets to just two points in the second quarter, while scoring eight.
The Lady Cats increased their lead with a 15-10 advantage in the third quarter before sealing the victory by outscoring the Lady Yellow Jackets 17-14 in the final quarter.
Dashaya Vigers led the Lady Bobcats in scoring with 18 points as she hit eight field goals and made two of four free throws. Vigers scored seven points to spark her team in the first quarter. Ashley Washington also hit the double-figure mark for the Lady Cats as she finished with 13 points on four field goals and five of six free throws. Washington scored six points in the pivotal fourth quarter.
Hali Jack added eight points, which included two 3-point goals, for the Lady Cats. Beulah Bradley and Kate McLemore completed the Eunice scoring with six and four points, respectively.
Iowa was led by Michan Ceasar with 14 points. Bailey Richard added 10 and Bethany Broussard had seven for the Lady Yellow Jackets.

EHS boys 44, Oakdale 31
The Eunice High Bobcats claimed their second consecutive win with a 44-31 victory over the Oakdale High Warriors in action Monday at the Bobcat gym.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats, now 3-6 on the season, took control of the game in the second quarter by outscoring the Warriors by an 11-0 margin to build a 19-11 halftime lead. The Cats had trailed by an 11-8 margin at the end of the first quarter.
The Cats continued their dominance in the third quarter, scoring 15 points to just six for the Warriors to build a 34-17 lead after three quarters. The Warriors managed to outscore the Cats by a 14-10 margin in the fourth quarter.
Five different Bobcats made field goals in the crucial second quarter, with Darious Richard adding a free throw to lead the way with three points in the quarter. Ron Shillow scored five points to lead the Cats in the third quarter.
Shillow led the Bobcats for the game with 15 points. Richard contributed nine points, with Khaleel Deville, Halen Jack, Ray Rougeau, and Kevin Williams scoring four points apiece.
Joey Linder hit four three-point goals as he led Oakdale in scoring with 13 points. Quindale Thomas added eight points for the Warriors.
The Bobcats will travel to Port Barre on Monday for their next action.

EHS 62, Pickering 53
The Bobcats earned their second win of the season on Saturday with a 62-53 victory over Pickering.
Earlier on Saturday, the Cats dropped a 58-48 contest to the Northwest High Raiders.
Against Pickering, the Cats took a 27-22 lead at the half, then outscored the Red Devils 17-16 and 18-15 in the final two quarters to earn the victory. Ron Shillow led the Bobcats in scoring with 24 points as he hit 10 field goals and added four free throws. Shillow scored 14 of those points in the fourth quarter.
Darius Richard added 14 points and Ray Rougeau chipped in nine for the Cats. Paul Hebert and Khaleel Deville had five points apiece.
Hebert led the Bobcats with 16 points in the loss to Northwest. Shillow scored 14 and Kevin Williams had 10 for the Cats.
