Richard earns Top Player honors

St. Edmund, Basile and Church Point gave it all they had in their respective quarterfinal games, but the Blue Jays, Bearcats and Battling Bears all saw their football seasons end last Friday.
Church Point running back Brett Richard gained 152 yards on 15 carries and scored three times in the Bears’ 27-26 loss to Livonia in the Class 3-A playoffs.
Richard scored on runs of 37, 18 and 48 yards against the Wildcats in his final high school football game.
For his efforts, Richard was selected as the Eunice News Player of the Week for Nov. 24-30.
St. Edmund quarterback Drew Brown completed 20-of-37 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown in the Blue Jays’ 28-7 loss to Cedar Creek in the Division IV playoffs.
Brown also gained 62 yards on 22 carries to help the Blue Jays outgain the Cougars, 355-269.
Church Point running back Deion Monroe had 92 yards on 16 carries, while James Bellard had 89 yards on 16 carries to help the bears roll up 375 yards on the ground against Livonia.
Basile’s Gabriel Fontenot had 79 yards on 18 carries, while Kendrick Ceaser had 78 yards on 19 carries including a 60-yard touchdown in the Bearcats’ 32-15 loss to Kentwood in the Class 1-A playoffs.
Stone LeJeune had seven catches for 68 yards including a 7-yard touchdown in St. Edmund’s loss to Cedar Creek.
Eunice’s DaShaya Vigers scored 20 points to help lead the Lady Cats to a 56-55 win over Iowa.
St. Edmund’s Christian McFarlain scored 21 points in the Blue Jays’ 70-25 loss to Livonia, while Maddie Andrus scored 17 points in the Lady Jays’ 49-36 loss to Basile.
LSU Eunice’s Reagan Maricle scored 17 points with eight assists, three rebounds and three steals in the Lady Bengals’ 80-58 win over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
