Taylor proud of senior season

By John Burson

Caleb Taylor was the pitching ace of the Eunice High School Bobcats over the past three seasons, finishing his career with an overall mound record of 22 wins and just five losses, with a career ERA of 2.69.
“Caleb was our most reliable pitcher from his sophomore season through his senior year,” commented head coach Scott Phillips. “We always knew that he would keep us in the game and give us a chance to win. He was a perfect example that you don’t have to throw hard to win. He probably topped out around 76-77 on the radar gun. What he was effective with was off-speed pitches, especially his changeup.”
Taylor was a master of the strike zone, issuing only 22 walks in 190 innings of mound work.
Not known as a strikeout pitcher, he still finished his high school career with 138 strikeouts.
Taylor was awarded for his consistency when he was named as an All-State first teamer on the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association’s Class 3A All-State Team.
He was also named honorable mention on the LSWA All-State 3A team, and this past week he was selected to the Acadiana Advocate’s All-Metro Baseball Team as one of four pitchers on the second team.
“I did what I had to do to be successful”, said Taylor of work ethic. Asked about the game he was most proud of, Taylor said it was the Bobcats victory over Barbe High School, a complete game in which he limited the eventual 5A state champions to three hits in helping his team to a 2-1 victory in a game played at Barbe.
