Simon's Summer Slam a success

By Tom Dodge

Tharold Simon saw himself in some of the kids and that was the motivating factor in why the Seattle Seahawk defensive back held his first Simon’s Summer Slam Sunday at the Southeast Community Center.
“I wanted to give back to my community,” the former Eunice Bobcat and LSU Tiger star said. “I grew up in a struggle and I wanted them to see somebody who came where they came from and is pushing himself to do what he has to do to be successful.”
Simon said there was more than 300 people including 100 kids that endured the heat to enjoy a barbecue, fun jumps. water slides and a basketball tournament.
“It was a good time,” Simon said. “It was kind of like a family reunion.”
Simon thanked the Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot for visiting and for all his family and friends who helped make it happen.
“I am hoping this grows and is much bigger next year,” he said.
Simon said he is planning to hold a football and cheer camp, involving NFL players and cheerleaders.
Simon reports to the Seahawks July 28 to begin preparation for the 2016 season.
“I am very excited,” he said. “I am healthy and hopefully I can prove some big things this season.”
