Bengals fall in extra inning heartbreaker

WOSC 5, LSU Eunice 2
ENID, Oklahoma - Western Oklahoma State College scored three runs in the top of the tenth inning to break a 2-2 tie and grab the winner’s bracket victory over top-ranked LSU Eunice Thursday night.
The Bengals will face UCONN-Avery Point in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
The Pioneers loaded the bases in the tenth when Joshua Anthony doubled down the third base line and Jose Martinez and Justin Ellison reached on back-to-back bunts.
“Any time you don’t get an out on a bunt, a big inning is going to happen,” LSU Eunice head coach Jeff Willis said.
Anthony scored on a wild pitch to give the Pioneers a 1-run lead before Marlor Villafana doubled to center to plate Martinez and Ellison for a 5-2 advantage.
“It was a very good baseball game where both teams made good plays,” Willis said. “It is key for us to let this loss go and keep playing. We can have one hiccup, we just can’t have two.”
Western jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Martinez reached on an error and crossed home on a hit by Ellison.
The Bengals tied the game in the bottom of the third when Trenon Trosclair reached on an error and scored on a passed ball.
LSU Eunice grabbed the advantage in the bottom of the fourth as David LaFleur walked and advanced to home on an error.
Western tied the game again in the top of the seventh when Foster Ford doubled to left field and scored on a deep sacrifice fly to center field by Anthony.
Zack Hamilton (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season as he struck out one and allowed three earned runs on three hits.
Starter Sam Walley went seven innings, striking out 11 with two walks and two earned runs on seven hits.
The Bengals were limited to four hits as Steven Sensley, Nick Coomes, LaFleur and Trosclair reached base off starter Ricardo Parra and game winner Garbin Villar.
