Bobcats cruise past Jennings
The Eunice Bobcats used a five-run second inning to take a 5-1 lead and never surrendered it as they topped the Jennings Bulldogs by a 9-4 margin in Acadiana Metro League play Wednesday evening at Bobcat Field.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but the Cats answered with a five-run bottom of the second inning to go one top for good.
In that inning, Wes Hebert drew a walk to lead off the inning and Christian Lejeune doubled to put runners at second and third. Logan Manuel drew a walk to load the bases. Hebert would tag up and score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Caleb Taylor.
The ball was dropped by the outfielder, but the Bulldogs got a force out at second base as Lejeune advanced to third base. Another error allowed Lejeune to score, giving the Cats a 3-1 lead.
A double by Christian Taylor drove home a run before Zac Guillory drilled a single to drive in Taylor with the fifth run.
The Cats added two runs in the third inning as Hebert walked and advanced to third on a bunt single by Lejeune.
Hebert would score on an error and Lejeune on a wild pitch for a 7-1 lead.
The Cats added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead to 9-2. Cade Richard singled, advanced to second on Jonas Granger’s sacrifice bunt, and scored on an error in the fourth.
In the fifth inning, Christian Taylor reached on yet another error and scored on a double by Guillory.
Guillory and Lejeune led the Bobcat offense with two hits apiece.
Caleb Taylor pitched the first five innings to earn the mound win for the Cats.
He scattered three hits, walked one, and struck out two. He gave up just one earned run.
Hebert and Gunner Fontenot each pitched an inning to close the game for the Cats.
In two innings, they gave up one hit, two unearned runs, and issued three walks.
Mark Hollier led Jennings with a single and three runs scored.
The Bulldogs used four pitchers, who combined to give up just three earned runs. The Bulldog defense committed six errors in the game.
