Lady Cats stay perfect on season

The Eunice High Lady Bobcats improved their record to 3-0 Monday night with a 55-42 victory over the Opelousas Catholic Lady Vikings.
The Lady Bobcats took control of the game in the early going as sophomore Dashaya Vigers had 10 of the Lady Cats’ 17 first quarter points while limiting the Lady Vikings to only eight. Vigers would finish the game as the Lady Cats’ leading scorer with 22 points on ten field goals and two free throws.
The Lady Cats continued their first-half dominance in the second quarter, out scoring the Lady Vikings by a 15-6 margin for a 32-14 halftime lead. Hali Jack had five points in that quarter to lead Eunice.
The Lady Vikings began to make a move against the Lady Cats in the third quarter, limiting the Eunice High girls to just nine points while scoring 19. Brittany Major led the comeback with 15 points in the quarter as her team cut the lead to 41-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
Opelousas Catholic closed the gap to 41-35 with Julia Lacade’s field goal at the 6:20 mark of the fourth quarter. But the Lady Cats responded with an 8-0 run to rebuild their lead to 49-35 by the midway point of the quarter.
Two field goals by Bethany Issac on an inbounds play and a put back on a rebound produced the first four points. The other goals came on a drive to the basket by Ashley Washington and a goal by Vigers, who rebounded a missed shot and scored at the 4:15 mark.
Major would hit a three-point field goal to cut the Eunice lead to 51-40, but the Lady Vikings would never get closer than ten points to the Lady Bobcats after that point.
“I think we relaxed a bit in the second half,” commented Durell Peloquin. “But we responded well when they made their run and held them off to finish the game.”
Peloquin felt that his team is slowly gaining confidence. “We are looking to improve in every game,” he said.
In addition to Vigers, the Lady Cats had two other players finish in double figures, as Jack had 11 and Beulah Bradley added 10. Washington and Issac had four apiece, with Mia Lejeune and Logan Ledoux chipping in with a field goal apiece to complete the scoring.

OC 63, EHS 48
The Eunice High Bobcats dropped a 63-48 decision to the Opelousas High Vikings in basketball action Monday night at the Bobcat gym.
The Vikings held only a 33-28 lead at the half. But the Bobcats were outscored 9-6 in the third quarter before the Vikings finished strong with a 21-14 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Caleon Powells led the Vikings in the fourth quarter with 11 of his game-high 19 points. He made seven of nine free throws in the quarter along with two field goals. Powells also hit two three-point goals in the first quarter.
For the game, the Vikings made 10 field goals from beyond the 3-point arc. Kyle Wesley had five of those, all in the first half. Wesley finished with 18 points. Kendall Marshall added 15 for the Vikings.
The Bobcats, now 1-4 on the season, struggled offensively in the second and third quarters, scoring just nine and six points. Sophomore Travis Godfrey led Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats in scoring with 16 points. Godfrey finished the game with four 3-point field goals. Jerwaski Thomas added 10 points for the Bobcats, with nine coming on three 3-point goals.
In the concluding contest for the Bobcats in the Catholic High of Baton Rouge Tournament, the Cats lost a 46-41 decision to the Broadmoor Hgh Bucs. Thomas led the scoring for the Cats with 14 points, which included three 3-point field goals. Darius Richard and Paul Hebert chipped in eight and seven points, respectively.
The Bobcats were scheduled to take part In the Iowa High Tournament beginning on Wednesday.
