Cassidy holds two-point lead as count winds down; EWE ahead in 5th District

Mayo leads 5th Dist.; Abraham, Dasher back and forth

Republican Bill Cassidy held onto a slight lead over U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, Democrat, as the last 300 of 4,018 boxes were being counted from Tuesday's Louisiana primary voting.
Cassidy, who gave up a U.S. House seat to take on the three-term Landrieu, had about 42 percent of the vote, compared to Landrieu's 40 percent.
A run-off election will be held Dec. 6.
Former Gov. Edwin Edwards showed the resiliency for which he was known before his political career was sidetracked by a federal prison sentence.
With 30 boxes unreported, Edwards, a Democrat, had 29.5 percent of the 6th Congressional District vote, compared to Republican Garret Graves' 27.5 percent.
In the 5th Congressional District, Jamie Mayo, Democrat, had 28 percent of the vote with 10 boxes still uncounted. Ralph Abraham had 23.3 percent and Zach Dasher had 22.6 percent. Both are Republicans.
Incumbent Vance McAlister had less than 20 percent.
