Lt. gov. bid likely, says Sen. Guillory

State Sen. Elbert Guillory, R-Opelouas, who represents much of Eunice in the Legislature, says he is likely to run for lieutentant governor in 2015.
Guillory told The Advocate that his attention is on that seat, rather than the U.S. Senate seat held by Mary Landrieu, D-La.
Guillory switched earlier this year from the Democratic Party, becoming the only black Republican in the Legislature and quickly gaining a foothold in state and national conservative circles.
Lt. Gov. Jay Darden is widely expected to seek the vacant governor’s post in 2015 rather than seen another term in the No. 2 seat.
Some observers had pitched Guillory as an alternative to Congressman Bill Cassidy in the race against Landrieu.
“I would never say never, but I’m moving in the direction of the lieutenant governorship,” Guillory told The Advocate.
He said being in the state, rather than in Washington, D.C., best connects him with helping Louisiana residents through job creation and education improvements.
