Lady Bengals season ends at regionals

ELLISVILLE, Miss. – It wasn't the way they had it planned.
Top-ranked LSU Eunice, the two-time defending NJCAA Division II champions were eliminated from the Region 23 tournament after back-to-back losses.
LSU Eunice fell 3-1 to No. 10 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Friday to end the season at 46-6.
The Lady Bengals opened the tournament with a stunning 4-3 loss to East Central Community College on Thursday.
LSU Eunice had won four straight Region 23 titles and captured the 2014, 2013 and 2011 national titles and was national runners-up in 2012.
On Friday, the Lady Bengals took a 1-0 lead against MGCCC when Katie Flowers singled and scored when Ginny Daggett reached on an error.
Jaci Lavigne also singled in that inning, but was left stranded at second base.
LSU Eunice threatened in the bottom of the third when Taylor Boulet singled but a double play stopped that rally.
Flowers doubled to the center field fence in the bottom of the sixth, but courtesy runner Camille Quebodeaux was left at second bases and the Lady Bengals could not get any others on base the final four at-bats.
All three Lady Bulldogs runs came in the top of the sixth inning, begun when Deborah Elmore and Britney Butler both singled and Emmalee Roberts reached on an error to load the bases.
Reagan Prentiss followed with a walk to allow Elmore to score and tie the game, 1-1.
Roberts and Prentiss raced home on a hit by Alyssa Hardy to give the Lady Bulldogs the decisive runs.
Destin Vicknair (18-4) had a strong performance with 12 strikeouts, walking three and allowed six hits.
Kaitlyn Lee (17-3) gave up only one unearned run on four hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
Flowers went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Boulet and Lavigne both went 1-for-3
