5 men charged with attacking man also charged with riot

Five men who attacked a man on the 24/7 Truck Stop parking lot on U.S. 190 in Eunice were charged with second-degree battery and riot, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidoz reported.
“The detective section decided to charge the group with the riot charge due to the serious of the crime. Louisiana law states that a riot is a public disturbance involving an assemblage of three or more persons acting together or in concert which by tumultuous and violent conduct, or the imminent threat of tumultuous and violent conduct, results in injury or damage to persons or property or creates a clear and present danger of injury or damage to persons or property,” Guidroz said in a news release.
On Aug. 21, a St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s deputy observed five black males in the parking lot kicking the victim while he was on the ground and attacking him as a group, Guidoz stated.
When the group noticed the patrol car the all fled, he stated. Deputies noticed what appeared to be a knife wound on the victim’s back and he had swelling to both eyes and a laceration over his left eye, Guidroz stated.
The victim was taken to the emergency room for treatment.
A surveillance video at the truck stop was reviewed and the five suspects were identified, Guidroz said. The victim ws able to identify three of the five attackers, he stated. One suspect was identified through a Facebook photo, he stated.
Deputies seized a video recorded by a customer of the fight.
The video shows Demondre Desmond Terry, 19, of Eunice, running up to the victim’s vehicle and began punching and pulling him from the vehicle, Guidroz stated.
The other suspects joined in the beating of the victim, while he was on the ground, Guidroz stated.
Guidroz stated one video shows Terry has a shiny object in his right hand and uses the object to strike the victim in the back.
Guidroz identified the five men charged in the attack as:
— Demondre Desmond Terry, 19, of the 400 block of Jelks Street, Eunice. Second-degree battery, aggravated second-degree battery and riot. Bail was set at $25,000.
— Vanderrick T. Ceasar, 19, 700 block of South 6th Street, Oberlin. Second-degree battery, riot and bench warrant for a separate cases. Bail was set at $10,000.
Tyrie L. Fredrick, 21, 200 block of Manuel Street, Eunice. Second-degree battery and riot. Bail was set at $10,000.
Rico Cordazz Morgan 24, 100 block of Julia Street, Eunice. Second-degree battery and riot. Bail was set at $10,000.
Shaiheem O. Mitchell, 22, 700 block of East Peach Street, Eunice.Second-degree battery and riot. Bail was set at $10,000.
