Branch woman killed, Church Point man arrested in fatal crash

A Branch woman died and a Church Point man was arrested after a crash near the Branch Volunteer Fire Department on La. 35 at 11:20 p.m Saturday, a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release reports.
A 2014 Ford F250 driven by 24-year-old Jean Mouille of Church Point and a 2005 Nissan Altima driven by 34-year-old Crystal Castille of Branch were traveling North on La. 35, police said.
Mouille attempted to pass Castille, but struck the rear left side of her vehicle with the front right side of his truck, the report said.. After impact, Castille ran off of the right side of the roadway and struck a telephone pole, the report said.
Castille was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, but suffered critical injuries, police said. She was transported to Acadia-St. Landry Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. A toxicology sample was obtained from Castille and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis, police said.
Mouille was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, police said. Troopers suspected Mouille was impaired at the time of the crash. Mouille submitted to a chemical breath test and was found to be over the legal limit of .08g percent, police said.
Mouille was charged with vehicular homicide, reckless operation, open container and illegal window tint, police said. Mouille was booked into the Acadia Parish Correctional Center.
This crash remains under investigation.
