Head-on crash kills Rayne man

A 20-year-old Rayne man died in a two-vehicle, head-on crash on La. 98 at Standard Mill Road in Lafayette Parish at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Louisiana State Police Troop I reported in a news release.
A 2001 Honda Civic driven by Joseph LeBlanc, of Rayne, was traveling east on La. 98 when for reasons still under investigation, he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a west bound 2015 Dodge Ram truck driven by Arthur Bourque, 49, of Lafayette, police report. After impact, LeBlanc’s vehicle traveled off of the roadway and became engulfed in flames, police stated.
LeBlanc was pronounced dead on scene by a representative from the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office, police stated.
Troopers were unable to determine if LeBlanc was wearing a seat belt due to the damage sustained to the vehicle, police stated.
Bourque, who was wearing a seat belt and suffered moderate injuries, was transported to a local hospital by Acadian Ambulance, police stated.
It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this crash, but toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis, police stated.
