Sheriff’s office investigating rash burglaries near Iota

Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon has reported that investigators are investigating a rash of burglaries that occurred in the Iota area on Wednesday,
According to investigators they are following up on four burglaries that were reported both north and south of Iota.
Melancon is asking residence to report any suspicious vehicle to his office at 788-8700.
Homicide investigation
In an unrelated incident Melancon said that on Thursday afternoon an Investigator with his department was contacted by the Jennings Police Department who was requesting assistance to execute a search warrant at a residence in the Crowley area in connections with a Nov. 21 homicide in Jennings.
District Judge John Trahan signed a search warrant for a residence located on South Eastern Avenue in Crowley for possible weapons, stolen items and ammo that may have been used or connected to the homicide.
Deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Acadia Parish ERT Team, Crowley Police Department and Jennings Police Department entered the residence located in the 800 block of South Eastern in Crowley at about 8 p.m. Thursday.
Several items were recovered in the residence and turned over to the Jennings Police Department for their investigation.
No arrests were made during the execution of the search warrant.
