Authorities in Acadia Parish are investigating a death that occurred near Church Point on Friday.
According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, his office received a call concerning a grass fire behind a residence in the 8400 block of the Church Point Hwy. near Church Point.

A Eunice man whose pickup crashed into the back of a stopped school bus in Kinder last week is charged with third-offense DWI as well as possession of illegal drugs and paraphernalia.
Dustin Richard McGowen’s previous DWI arrests include at least one in Eunice, that on April 24, 2010.

It’s been almost a year since D’Andre Goodley, 18, of Eunice was killed in a trail ride-related shooting at Branch, and no one has yet been charged. Meanwhile, a Eunice resident charged in the pistol whipping of a man at the same scene has had charges against him dismissed.

The Eunice City Council on Tuesday night accepted the recommendation of Chief Ronald Dies to terminate one of two police officers suspended for not assisting another during an April altercation.

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
