Bobcats earn first district win

CROWLEY – The Eunice High Bobcats broke into the District 4-4A win column for the first time here Friday night with a 61-42 victory over the Crowley High Gents.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats took an early lead with a 20-12 first quarter advantage and managed to increase their lead to 32-18 by halftime by outscoring the Gents 12-6 in the second quarter. The Gents did cut into the Eunice High lead by one in the third quarter, but the Bobcats prevailed in the fourth quarter by a 14-8 margin to secure the win.
“I thought our guys played really hard all night defensively, which led to easy lay-ups for us in transition,” commented Coach Andrepont. “Offensively, we did a good job of finding Malik Poullard, who shot the ball extremely well. It was a total team effort.”
Poullard sparked the offense in the first quarter by hitting four field goals from 3-point range and adding one other field goal to total 14 of the Cats’ 20 points. The sophomore also provided a spark in the fourth quarter when he scored eight points, including another three-point goal. Poullard topped all scorers in the game with 26 points.
Brandon Ndubueze and Keithan Green added nine and eight points for the Cats. Terryl Poullard and Devon Freeman chipped in six and five points, respectively.
Jacqco Price led the Gents with 14 points. Tyrin Davis also hit the double-figure mark in scoring with 10 points for the Gents.
Eunice, now 5-15 overall and 1-4 in district play, will host Beau Chene Tuesday night in 4-4A action. The Bobcats will also host Opelousas on Friday night as they continue district play.
