Bobcats shutout Trojans
Eunice High pitchers Caleb Taylor and Christian Lejeune combined to shutout the Sacred Heart Trojans on just two hits as the Bobcats rolled to an 8-0 victory in Acadiana Metro Baseball action Wednesday night at Bobcat Field.
Taylor worked the first four innings, giving up both hits, walking one and striking out seven. Lejeune did not allow a hit over the final three innings. Lejeune walked one and struck out six Trojans.
The two Bobcat hurlers received plenty of run support. The Cats scored four runs off Trojan starter Connor Fontenot in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. Cade Richard drew a walk to start the inning, stole second and third bases, and scored on a single by Jonas Granger.
With one out, Granger stole second base and scored on a single by Wes Hebert. Hebert would later score the third run of the frame thanks to an error. The fourth run came after Logan Manuel doubled and scored on Caleb Taylor’s single.
The Cats added single runs in the second, third and fourth innings. In the second, Jayden Brasseaux walked, advanced to second on Richard’s sacrifice bunt, and later scored on a wild pitch. In the third, Hebert doubled and eventually scored on Manuel’s sacrifice fly. In the fourth, Daniel Stahl singled and scored on a single by Richard for a 7-0 lead. The final run for the Cats came in the sixth when Ian George drew a walk and scored on a ground out by Brasseaux.
Sacred Heart’s two hits came in the Trojans’ fourth inning on singles by Keaton Tate and Caleb Soileau. Taylor had to work out of a bases-loaded, none out situation in the inning. He retired the next three Trojans batters on a pop fly and two strikeouts to keep the shutout intact.
The Bobcats will continue Metro play on Monday when they host Jennings. On Wednesday, the Cats will host Crowley.
