District title on line as Blue Jays visit Sacred Heart

St. Ed's defense will play a key role in Friday night's clash with Sacred Heart.

The St. Edmund Blue Jays take on the Sacred Heart Trojans here Friday night hoping to wrap up the District 5-1A title.
Coach Thomas David’s Blue Jays enter the contest with a 3-0 district mark and a win would give them the district title outright. Overall, the Jays are 5-3.
The Trojans enter the game with a 2-1 district record and need a win to gain a share of the title. Overall the Trojans are 5-4.
Both the Jays and the Trojans were barely challenged last week. St. Edmund rolled over False River Academy 58-0 and the Trojans claimed a 40-14 victory over Beekman.
“Sacred Heart has pretty good size and team speed,” commented Coach David about the Trojans.
“They mix it up between run and pass and like to throw it down the field.”
The Blue Jays are led offensively by senior quarterback Drew Brown. Brown has completed 116 of 224 passes with 20 touchdowns and only four interceptions. In addition, Brown has rushed for 299 yards with five touchdowns.
Senior Alex Hunt is Brown’s favorite target with 37 receptions for 541 and five touchdowns. Drake Brunet is second to Hunt in receptions with 26 for 331 yards and six touchdowns.
Senior Zach Lafleur leads the Blue Jays in rushing with 549 yards on 104 carries. Lafleur has scored eight rushing touchdowns, including four against False River.
Coach David believes that his team is mentally focused.
“We’ve put ourselves in a good situation and we need to show up and do what we do and we’ll be all right. We need to take advantage of what their defensive gives us.”
The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
