Gents slip past Bobcats

CROWLEY – The Crowley High Gents broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim a 3-2 victory over the Eunice High Bobcats in District 4-4A action here Tuesday night at Miller Stadium.
Will Doughty’s two-out double scored Bubba Daigle with the game-winning run. Daigle had opened the seventh inning with a single, but Bobcat pitcher Christian Lejeune struck out the next two batters before Doughty’s clutch hit.
The Cats opened the game’s scoring with a run in the fourth against Crowley pitcher Pate Broussard. Wes Hebert opened the inning by reaching first base on an error. Alex Sonnier moved Hebert to third base with a double, and Alec Trosclair’s infield single scored Hebert for a 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats increased their lead to 2-0 in the top of the sixth. Jordan Comeaux walked but was erased at second base as Hebert hit into a fielders’ choice. Lejeune’s single moved Hebert to third base and he would score on a single by Caleb Taylor.
Lejeune limited the Gents to two hits through five innings, but the Crowley bats got to the lefty in their sixth inning. Doughty singled and scored on a triple by Alex Ashby.
Rock Mouton hit a two-out double to score the tying run before Lejeune struck out Haden Erbe to end the inning.
After Broussard set down the Cats in the top of the seventh, Doughty’s hit gave the Gents the victory.
Broussard gave up six hits and struck out four to earn the win for Crowley. Lejeune allowed seven hits, walked one, and struck out six in falling to 3-3 on the season.
Crowley improved to 5-0 in district play and to 15-2 overall. The Bobcats fell to 3-2 in district play and to 11-8 overall.
The Bobcats will host the Beau Chene Gators at Bobcat Field tonight at 6 p.m.
