Lady Jays fall to CHPC
NEW ROADS – In a pitcher’s duel, the top-ranked Lady Hornets managed just enough offense as Catholic High of Pointe grabbed a 2-0 win over St. Edmund on Thursday.
With the win, Catholic (17-4, 6-0) captured the District 5-1A title.
With the loss, St. Edmund falls to 12-7 overall and 1-4 in district.
Presently, the Lady Jays are seventh in the Class 1-A power rankings with a district make-up game at False River Academy set for Tuesday.
After four scoreless innings, Catholic High of Pointe Coupee grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth as Claire Roy doubled and scored when Julia Johnson grounded out to first base.
The Lady Hornets added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Amanda Bueche walked and scored on Katelyn Bellelo’s double to center field.
Ryann Bizette grabbed the win as she struck out 12 and scattered just four hits.
The Lady Jays threatened in the first when Baylee Lafleur singled and again in the fourth when Heather Bieber singled.
Heidi Bieber singled in the top of the fifth and Kasey Lafleur singled in the top of the seventh, but no Lady Jay could score.
Kasey Lafleur suffered the loss as she struck out five, walked one and allowed two earned runs on four hits.
