Richard grabs top player honors
The Eunice Bobcats closed their season with a 47-7 win over the Beau Chene Gators, led by junior quarterback Alex Richard.
Richard completed 4-of-5 passes for 91 yards including two touchdown passes of 28 and 50 yards to Travis Godfrey (2-78).
Richard also gained 20 yards on four carries with an 11-yard touchdown run against the Gators.
For his efforts, Richard was selected as the Eunice News Player of the Week for Nov. 2-8.
St. Edmund’s Drew Brown ran for a touchdown, threw for a score and caught a touchdown pass in the Blue Jays’ 28-12 win over rival Sacred Heart of Ville Platte.
Brown scored on a 1-yard run, caught a 29-yard pass from Drake Brunet and threw a 2-yard touchdown to Zach LaFleur.
Brown completed 14-of-25 passes for 147 yards and gained 48 yards on 21 carries.
Basile’s Kendrick Ceaser gained 141 yards on 18 carries with touchdown runs of 12 and 5 yards in the Bearcats’ 29-8 win over Oberlin. Ceaser alo had three catches for 26 yards.
Basile Gabe Fontenot added 122 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown run of 11 yards. Fontenot also had two catches for 26 yards.
Church Point quarterback Troy Matte completed 12-of-20 passes for 121 yards in the Bears’ 24-21 loss to Livonia.
Christian Veronie led the Bears’ ground attack with 97 yards on 21 carries including a 3-yard touchdown run.
Eunice running back Nick Powell had 88 yards on just two carries, including a 69-yard touchdown run as the Bobcats finished the season at 4-6 and just missed the Class 4-A playoffs as the No. 33 seed.
Basile quarterback Mark Ivory completed 6-of-12 for 83 yards in the win over Oberlin.
St. Edmund’s Zach LaFleur had 71 yards on 20 carries and scored on a 6-yard run and a 2-yard reception.
