All-American Post VFW 8971 Commander Gene Olivier

After 64 years Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8971 was recently recognized as an All-American Post, along with Commander, Gene Olivier.
Olivier said, “All-American is the highest award to receive from National. Veterans of Foreign Wars. Post 8971 competed with 650 other posts nationally on July 19 in St. Louis, Mo.”
According to Olivier, the top 25 from Division 6 were awarded All-American Post. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8971 was ranked ninth in Division 6 which made it eligible for the All-American award.
Olivier added, “The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8971 in Louisiana District 7, which has 8 posts, is the only one that has ever received an All-American status.”
All-American Post Commander Gene J. Olivier stated, “We couldn’t have made it without all the citizens that participate in the post bingo, Buddy Poppy days, Veterans Day celebration and also with the help from several of the post members that worked hard for us to achieve All-American status.
“With the participation from the citizens of Eunice, this helps the post achieve their obligation.”
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8971 obligation is to honor deceased veterans by serving the living.
