Feucht speaks - “Medications”
Dr. Charles S. Feucht, a clinical pharmacist with more than 28 years of medication therapy management experience, with Acadiana Clinical Pharmacist Services, Inc., spoke during a recent Kiwanis meeting. His topic included, “Are You’re Medications killing You or Someone Close to You?”
Feucht encouraged and suggested to the group, “Never make any changes of prescriptions without the advice of a health care professional, preferably your pharmacist or physician.
Key notes presented by Feucht (from RXPERTUSA.com) included: Adverse drug reactions and drug interactions account for over 100,000 deaths every year; over 20% of hospitalization result from this
Other notes:
* This may be the cause of some dementias;
* In many cases elderly patients receive medications which are contraindicated or should be avoided;
* Many of the prescription medications they take are the direct result of drug-induced problems and those prescriptions result in additional problems.
