31st World Championship Etouffee Cook-off is Sunday
The 31st World Championship Etouffee Cook-off will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m today at the Northwest Pavilion at 501 Samuel Drive, and 32 cooking teams will compete in the contest.
In addition to the cook-off, the event will feature a karate demonstration, other foods besides crawfish and refreshments and beer. There will be handmade arts and crafts like bows, crochet items, children’s clothes, woodwork items, bird houses for sale. Admission to the cook-off is free, and no ice chests are allowed.
Live entertainment will also start at 10 a.m. Bands are as follows: 10 to 11:30 a.m., Josh Johnson and the Beagle Ranch Ramblers; noon to 1:30 p.m., Pine Leaf Boys; and 2 to 3:30 p.m., Geno Delafose and French Rockin Boogie.
Winners of the cook-off will be announced at 3:30 p.m.
There will be designated parking for the staff, judges, vendors and contestants at the cook-off, and public parking will be on road sides and at front of the Winn-Dixie and at the St. Edmund football field parking lots. Overflow parking is planned at the old Howard’s parking lot. Shuttle transportation to and from the Winn-Dixie parking lot will be available.
Samuel Drive from Magnolia to Scott Avenue north of the railroad tracks will be converted to one-way on Sunday. Only northbound traffic will be allowed.
