Alert officer spots fleeing suspect, foot chase results in arrest

Cardero Coleman: Armed robbery suspect.

A Eunice Police Department officer on patrol pursued an armed robbery suspect before the crime was even reported as his quick thinking actions resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
According to a press release, Eunice police officials said that while on patrol traveling east on Hwy 190 and 9th Street an officer reported over the radio that he was watching a black male run away from the Chevron gas station at 801 West Laurel Ave.
The officer reported that the suspect was wearing a gray hoodie and a stocking over his head complete with a pistol in his hand.
The officer then ran behind the suspect while other officers responded. The officer then lost sight of the suspect near West Vine and North 9th when the report of an armed robbery was called in from the gas station.
Another officer in the area then spotted a suspect fitting the same description and ordered him to stop several times. When the subject refused to stop the officer deployed his Taser and the subject fell to the ground.
He was then handcuffed and officers observed that he still allegedly had the cash and other items in his pockets from the robbery. According to the radio logs, the suspect was apprehended and was held at gunpoint until back-up arrived.
Officers then located the stocking cap and the firearm near 9th and Vine. The ..40 -caliber Ruger was found on the east side of 901 West Vine Street. Police said that the pistol found was one that was used during the robbery and was also reported stolen from the Alexandria area.
The suspect was identified as Cardero Coleman. He was then transported to Eunice PD and booked. The entire armed robbery was captured on the business video surveillance system. He appeared before 27th Judicial District Judge Donald Hebert this morning and bond was set at $97,500.
