AMC a Safe Sleep Champion Hospital

Acadian Medical Center, a campus of Mercy Regional Medical Center, was recently named a Safe Sleep Champion Hospital with the Department of Health and Hospitals, Bureau of Family Health.
Chris Cornell, RN, with Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Bureau of Family Health Maternal Child Health Coordinator Region 4 awarded Acadian Medical Center with a Certificate of completion on Wednesday, March 26, 2014.
The purpose of this initiative is to reduce unexpected infant deaths in Louisiana.
The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Bureau of Family is reaching out to all delivering hospitals, policy committees, and hospital staff in obstetrical and pediatric units to urge the adoption of recommendations made by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
In Louisiana, officials said, too many babies are dying before they reach their first birthday, deaths that are often related to an unsafe sleep environment. All new mothers and their families need to understand the importance of placing infants in a safe sleeping environment.
Acadian Medical Center is proud to be a recipient of this award and to be a part of such an important initiative, said Phyllis Faul, RN, Employee Health at Acadian Medical Center.
