Council on Aging seeks board members
The annual meeting of the St. Landry Council on Aging will be held at noon Sept. 15 at 2419 James Eaglin Lane, Opelousas.
One of the purposes of the meeting is to approve new appointments to the board. There are three positions open.
The openings are for the Village of Cankton, Town of Grand Coteau and the Town of Sunset.
A person is legally qualified to become a member of the board of directors provided he/she:
— Be of lawful voting age.
— Be desirous of fulfilling the purpose and mission of the council.
— Be a resident of the Municipality he or she purports to represents for at least six months prior to being elected to the Board and maintain residence for the duration of the elected time. Terms are for three consecutive years.
Every eligible person interested in serving senior citiens of St. Landry Parish as an active board member may contact the mayor of the municipality or Mary Chapman, executive director of the Council of Aging at 2419 James Eaglin Lane, Opelousas, LA, or call 942-1938. A final date for application is Sept. 2.
A public hearing will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday for the public, at the Council on Aging Office at which time a membership drive will be held.
