Crash on U.S. 190 kills Iota woman near Eunice

Eunice man injured

A two-vehicle crash on the eastbound lanes of U.S. 190 at La. 95, just east of Eunice, claimed the life of Krystal McGinn, 38, of Iota at 9:34 p.m. Thursday, a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release stated.
The crash occurred when Tabitha Deshotel, 32, of Basile was northbound on La. 95 and stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with U.S. 190, police said.
Brent Soileau, 51, of Eunice was driving a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle east on U.S. 190 approaching La. 95, police said.
Deshotel failed to yield from the stop sign and attempted to cross the eastbound travel lanes of US 190, police said.
As Deshotel entered the eastbound lanes, Soileau’s motorcycle struck the front left corner of Deshotel’s vehicle, police said.
Deshotel was properly restrained and was not injured in the crash, police said.
McGinn, a passenger on Soileau’s motorcycle was ejected from the motorcycle upon impact and sustained fatal injuries, police said.
Soileau was also ejected from the motorcycle and was air lifted to a local hospital with critical injuries, police said.
Police said Soileau and McGinn were not wearing approved DOT helmets at the time of the crash.
Impairment is not suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash, however; toxicology samples were obtained from Soileau and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis, police said.
Deshotel was given a chemical breath test and was found not to be impaired, police said.
The crash remains under investigation. Charges are pending review by the District Attorney’s Office, police said.
