Detour, evacuation remain in effect as well-capping effort continues

People coming to Eunice for Mardi Gras activities beginning Friday night are reminded a detour is in effect due to an oil/gas well blowout Tuesday evening.
If you are traveling from the Crowley area, north to the Eunice area, take LA 13 to LA 370, LA 370 to LA 368, LA 368 to LA 755.
The detour will remain in effect until capping efforts are completed.
Officials said Friday that crews are on site, but could give no estimate as to when the well will be sealed.
Meanwhile, about 30 persons remain unable to return to their homes in the cordoned area, except twice a day with law enforcement escort.
Officials say the area is closed as a safety precaution because of the unstable nature of the escaping gas.
