Diocese of Lafayette to confirm appointment of new bishop

Basile native named

The Diocese of Lafayette announced this morning that Most Rev. J. Douglas Deshotel has been appointed to succeed Most Rev. Michael Jarrell, DD, as bishop of the diocese.
A news conference is scheduled at 11 a.m. today at the Immaculata Center in Lafayette to confirm the announcement.
The news conference will be available by live stream video at www.diolaf.org.
Deshotel is a native of Basile and was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Dallas in 1978. He was ordained as auxiliary bishop of Dallas in 2010 and will continue to serve there until his installation as the seventh Bishop of Lafayette, a news release stated.
The news release also stated that details on the installation are pending at this time and will be released at a later date.
