Edwards comments on Trump backing a minimum wage increase

Manship School News Service

Gov. John Bel Edwards, while delivering remarks to a non-profit group Tuesday, offered some thoughts on the de facto Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump.
Edwards noted that Trump recently called for an increase in the minimum wage from the federally mandated $7.25 per hour, a policy that Edwards has advocated for since becoming governor.
“I guess a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then,” Edwards joked.
Rep. Karen Carter Peterson’s bill to increase the state’s minimum wage to $8.50 by 2018 is on Edwards’ legislative agenda. The bill is awaiting a hearing in the Senate Finance Committee.
