J. Melka Ardoin, Cleco’s local manager, announced that Central Louisiana Electric Company Inc. has petitioned the Louisiana Public Service Commission for “... moderate adjustment in electric service rates.” The rate was not reported, but Ardoin said while the cost of living had risen 30 percent in the past 10 years, CLECO electric rates had gone down 28 percent.
Gov. John J. McKeithen was scheduled to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the Eunice Day Care Center near Eunice High School, according to state Rep. Curtis Joubert. Officers of the Eunice Association for Retarded Children include Leon Tujague Sr., president; Dr. Jack Miller, vice president; Mrs. Esther Salassi, treasurer; and Mrs. Lorita McManus, secretary. The board of directors are Mrs. Sylvia Mayeaux, Paul Mayeaux, Charles Gil, Grady Lowe, Ted Wasmuth, Curtis Joubert, I. Jackson Burson Jr., Andrew Dossman, Dudley Guillory, Dr. Bernard Fruge and Harvey Gil.
Library Club officers at St. Edmund High School were Peggy Courville, president; Annette Harrington, vice president; Pam Cuccio, secretary; Diana Reed, historian; and Jackie Ardoin, treasurer.
Eunice Superette, owned and operated by Dennis Hollier and Jerome Moore, advertised four loaves of Evangeline Maid butternut bread for $1 and 17 cents for a can of Campbell’s chicken noodle soup.
Perry Pitre Ford Co.’s advertisement included his home phone number as well as the managers and sales staff. A used 1966 Ford four-door V-8 with air conditioning was advertised for $1,295.
