The following are from the pages of July 2002 editions of The Eunice News.
Workers at an invitation baseball tournament were photographed during the tournament. They were Lacy Thibodeaux, Lisa Duplechin, Kasey Landreneau, Kylie Landreneau and Kim Gaspard.
Jack Daigle was pictured in his role as a Eunice Police Auxiliary officer with his granddaughter, Kourtney Daigle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Daigle Jr. It was noted Daigle was also a volunteer firefighter.
The prize for “Best Decorated Bicycle” in the July 4th parade was awarded to Kaylee DeRosier.
Dancer instructors for the Acadiana Charter Chapter of the Cajun French Music Association shown in a photo were Lorraine Granger, Jerial and Mercedes Guillory, Ova and Diana Cormier, Forest and Juanita Babineaux, Harry and Ruby Bellard, Ferdie and Pearl Labbie, Cliff and Julia Richard, and John Saucier. The caption said the group was not the complete assembly of instructors.
Marc and Ann Savoy performed Cajun music and discussed Cajun culture during a presentation to teachers who participated in a summer institute on the LSUE campus. The institute focused on the 1927 Mississippi River flood. The three-week program was led by professors Huey Guagliardo and Anthony Baltakis. Cajun musician Hadley Castille also performed at the institute.
The Eunice All Stars won the Mustangs district championship. Coaches included Randy Turner, John Neil Fontenot, James Tucker, Keith Fontenot, Brannon Leger and Kenny Lee. Team members included Doug Zaunbrecher, Jacob Fontenot, Stuart Turner, Beau Leger, Tyler Fontenot, Wesley Chachere, Glen Matt, Johnathon Tucker, Conner Ardoin, Alex Lee, Vondary Vallare and Taylor Wallett.
