The following is from the August 1997 files of The Eunice News.
John “Eddie” Soileau, president of Sunland Construction Inc., was named “Louisiana Entrepreneur of the Year” by Hibernia Bank and Ernst and Young, LLP. In the story, Soileau commented on the oil and gas industry. “Activity is increasing,” he said. “Everyone who is in the business appears to be doing very well.”
Police Chief Charles Manuel introduced new police officers Kevin Noel and John Medlin Jr. to the city council.
K&B advertised a carton of Marlboro, Winston and Kool cigarettes for $15.66.
A new Stage stores was celebrating a grand opening on Aug. 28.
Alton Thomas was named mayor pro tempore at Chataignier.
A Eunice News series focused on Keith Ortego’s career in the National Football League. A Eunice High graduate, Ortego was on the Chicago Bears Super Bowl team in 1985.
