Eunice streets scheduled for improvement listed

Twenty street projects estimated to cost $894,000 were approved by the Eunice Board of Aldermen.
The projects are funded from a portion of the city’s 2.2 percent sales dedicated to capital outlay projects, Mayor Scott Fontenot said.
The city’s budget included $800,000 for street work, but Fontenot said Steve Moosa, the city’s accountant, has indicated the city can afford the additional $94,000 in street work.
The street work is done every two years, Fontenot said.
Work is expected to start in 60 to 90 days, he said.
Fontenot said he would like to see the work done through a bond issue, which would allow the city to redo all of its roads like the parish is doing with its road program.
The 2016 Wide Street Improvement Program approved Tuesday by the Board of Aldermen includes the following projects and the estimated costs.
Ward 1
Neva Street from U.S. 190 to Williams Avenue, hardsurfacing, $35,500.
Nile Street from Shelia Street to McKenzie Street, patch and overlay, $100,500.
Nile Street from Sheila Street to Moosa Boulevard, patch and overlay, $56,500.

Town Home Drive from La. 13 to dead end, reconstruction, $88,000.
