Mrs. Elina F. Miller of Eunice, who had not heard from her son John Bruce Miller for a long time, has received a letter saying he is a prisoner in Osaka, Japan and in good health.
Staff Sgt. Gaines Chachere, Jr. of Eunice has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for action on a B-4 bomber in the China-Burma-India theater.
Sgt. Raymond Reed, son of Mrs. Austin Reed and her late husband, writes from a Japanese prisoner of war camp in the Philippines that he is well. Mrs. Reed also recently received a letter from a solider cared for by her daughter, U.S. Army Nurse Lessie Reed, at a California hospital.
A reception was held for the Rev. W.F. Towne, new pastor of First Baptist Church. He comes here with his family from Gueydan and occupies the parsonage at 7th & Laurel.
Eunice native Dr. Frank Stagg is now an associate professor of New Testament at the Baptist Bible Institute. He has been pastor at First Baptist, DeRidder for four years.
A 15-mile, two-inch extension of the natural gas line from this city to Duralde has been approved by the City Council. The line will serve a large number of rural dwellers.
This month (the 10th) marks the first anniversary of Tri-Parish Bank. Deposits have grown from about $200,000 to $1.6 million. M.J. Fruge has succeeded E.A. Veillon as bank cashier.
Mayor Oliver Reed is out and about again, after an illness of more than one year. He is now able to drive as well as take lengthy walks. Alderman C.J. Derbes has served as acting mayor.
George Stagg has announced his candidacy for mayor.
Forty-four persons have bought interest in a system for freezing various foods and vegetables raised in the Eunice area, according to Burleigh McManus.
